Carbon is the building block of every living thing. It is also the release of carbon, post-Industrial Revolution, that is the great fear of our modern time: the bringer of psunamis, catastrophic “natural” disasters. By reducing an object to carbon, carbonizing it, it is paired down to a “pure” state. Here we are faced with whole carbon head – every bit carbonized save for enamel of the teeth and gold caps.
The Divine Comedy is part of a series of works in carbon.
