I, John (2006)
Archival giclee print, 22″ x 20.5″
From the video painting, I, John – part of a series of works called “Contemplations of Mortality.” Referencing vanitas painting, lit with dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, we see a human skull on a cake stand/ dish, which acts like a 17th Century ruff collar. Birds are feasting around the skull. If you look carefully you notice two screws in the sides of the skull, pointing to the construct of the piece and echoic of Frankenstein: myth making and story telling.
