The Practical Impossibility of Faith

Date: 2006
Media: Cast glass
Dimensions: 6ft high, 7 rungs (life size)

The Practical Impossibility of Faith is an exact cast in glass of an old, worn, wooden ladder found in the North Tower of Durham cathedral. Each grain and indentation of the wood has been captured in the glass. The ladder has 7 rungs and is 6 ft tall. Z+Z are interested in the medium of glass as being sculpture with light – an echo of their original form. “The Practical Impossibility of Faith” was fired in the largest kiln in Europe, at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
