“Obol” is a vignette from the work series The Dream of the Pearl Diver’s Widow. Human teeth and semen are recurring motifs in Z+Zs artwork. In their work, the tooth armoured with gold crown is symbolic of the futility of corporeal immortality, and provides an unwitting obol for the ferryman. The obol appears in other “Psychopomp” works – see also Shinigami and Somnia.
